Bad News consists of thirteen fabric works of various formats depicting violent news events selected from Chilean newspapers during 2007. The chosen stories evoke images of repulsion, death, anguish, murder, and torture, mostly occurring within domestic and family environments.
The news texts were visually rearticulated through printmaking techniques such as monotype, hand-printed woodcut, frottage, and screen printing on fabric. One important reference for this work is Lira Popular, the Chilean print tradition that narrated and illustrated tragic and violent events through engraving.
Bad News was developed as Boris Campos Ernst’s graduation thesis project at ARCIS University. The fabric piece Tres Hijos was later acquired by MAC Museum and included in the exhibition Post 90 (2017).
